Supercompensation refers to the process of the body adapting to a progressive exercise program.  Initially, the body may get broken down and fatigued as a result of new stresses and demands placed on it during an exercise program.  However, if given an opportunity to recover from the stimulus,  the body compensates for the stress that has been placed on it leading to improved fitness, strength, power, etc.
