How might cholesterol medications affect sexual activity?

Fibrates and statins may cause impotence (the inability to maintain an erection). If you experience this side effect, your physician may recommend a medication change or dosage adjustment, when possible. Statins may be less likely to cause sexual problems than fibrates, although the risk of sexual problems from either is very low.
Keep in mind that any cholesterol medications you take are for the benefit of your cardiovascular health. Even if these medications may be impacting your sex life, it is important NEVER to stop or change any of your medications without first talking to the doctor who prescribed the medication.
