Certain classes of drugs may be affected by chocolate intake.  Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), which include the antidepressants Nardil and Parnate, are affected by chocolate;  eating an excessive amount of chocolate when taking these medications may cause a sharp rise in blood pressure. The caffeine in chocolate can also interact with stimulant medications like Ritalin by increasing their stimulant effects. The caffeine in chocolate can also decrease the sedative effect of some sleeping pills such as Ambien or Lunesta.
