Can having open heart surgery give me a runny nose?

There is probably no direct effect of open heart surgery and a runny nose. Runny nose is not commonly seen after open heart surgery. On the other hand, if you had a tube placed in your nose for any reason after surgery, you may have some local irritation that should go away with time.
