How does chronic fatigue syndrome affect the body?

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) can have serious effects on someone's daily functioning because it affects both body and mind. The most prominent symptom of CFS, fatigue, can slow your body down and cause trouble concentrating or remembering things. Fatigue can cause the brain to function incorrectly, leading to difficulty sleeping, headaches, or fainting spells. Because chronic fatigue syndrome has been linked to disruptions of the immune system, it can make your body more susceptible to infection. Chronic fatigue syndrome may also prolong or worsen the effects of low blood pressure (hypotension), such as dizziness. Some people may also experience heightened symptoms of depression due to chronic fatigue syndrome.
