Mental health concerns are higher among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) elders. In this video HealthMaker Robert Espinoza explains that the older LGBT population report higher rates of depression and suicide.
Absolutely I think some research shows that mental health concerns are infact higher among LGBT older people I mentioned. The LGBT older people have people [UNKNOWN] high rates of depression, suicidal idolation/g. We also see on the other end that LGBT a lot of people are also experiences from the resilience something about having survived decades of discrimination having to live independently and sort of carve your own life has also created a sense of resilience.
And so the same research that shows these mental health concerns, also shows that many also engage in behaviors that promote good health. Many engage in meditation and exercise and behaviors that promote a sound body and a sound mind. So, I think the combination of both the hardship that they've experienced but also the resilience they've incurred.
I think makes for very important and be very engaged demographic.
