Meals On Wheels offers more than just a hot meal to people who need and deserve it. In this video, HealthMaker Ellie Hollander talks about the impact this program has on federal spending of taxpayer dollars.
Well I think that the level of poverty is 1:6 which is very high and as our population ages and we're living longer we just simply we don't have the means to continue. Meals on Wheels, what I think we forget sometimes is it, not only is it social and moral imperative but it is far less costly to tax payers and to our economy, than the alternatives because it enables a seniors to stay in their own home for as long as they wish and enables them to be more healthy, more independent, if what's the alternative, the alternative is to in a be in nursing home, a long term care facility or a hospital and the cost that one incurs through the far more expensive healthcare alternatives contributes obviously to a deficit.
So not only is it just a wise thing to invest in but it actually helps reduce healthcare cost.
