Bitter melon (fruit and juice) has been shown to lower blood glucose (blood sugar) levels and therefore when consumed with anti-diabetes drugs it may lower the blood sugar too much. Let your healthcare team know if you are eating bitter melon and taking diabetes drugs including but not limited to chlorpropamide, glimepiride, glyburide, metformin or insulin.
You'll also want to be careful if you are taking any herbs or other supplements that may lower blood sugar levels. Some of those supplements include chromium, garlic, fenugreek, psyllium and Siberian ginseng.
