What are sofosbuvir and ribavirin prescribed for?

Sofosbuvir (Sovaldi) blocks specific proteins that the hepatitis C virus needs to multiply and spread. Ribavirin (Copegus, Rebetol, Ribasphere) causes harmful mutations in the hepatitis C virus. This combination is one of the recommended regimens for people with virus genotype 3 who have not yet been treated for hepatitis C.
