answer
Despite what your mother may have told you, green does not always mean antibiotics are needed. Plenty of viruses (common colds) cause green mucus that goes away on its own. If your child has a clear runny nose for more than a week or two and then it turns green or she gets a fever or seems like she is in pain (eg, fussy, irritable), she should be examined because she may have developed a sinus or an ear infection.

Please don’t ask for an antibiotic to be prescribed over the phone. Your child should always be examined first to know exactly what is going on and what needs to be treated.
