answer
Olecranon bursitis is inflammation (swelling) on the back of the elbow. The bursa is a fluid-filled sac that serves to protect bony surfaces of the body. If the bursa becomes irritated, it will swell causing pain. Olecranon bursitis is usually caused by repeatedly leaning on, or putting excessive pressure on the elbow (also known as students elbow). If the swelling becomes severe enough it may need to be drained by a doctor. Use caution when exercising and eliminate any exercise that causes pain. To help treat olecranon bursitis, you can statically stretch the triceps. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds to allow your muscles time to relax and elongate. Use extreme caution when performing any upper-body exercises, and only lift extremely light weights until the pain and swelling has been eliminated. Exercises above the head, or exercises for the triceps should be eliminated until you are symptom free.
