No matter where you are on your health journey, there is nothing to apologize for.

A lot of people ask me what they should eat if they are living with diabetes. But for my work, I think an even better question
is how can you change your thinking around your eating habits? It's a subtle difference, but can make for a big change.

Very often, my patients who are living with diabetes approach our appointments as if they're getting in trouble for something, like they're in elementary school and are called
to the principal's office. I assure you, that is not the case. No matter where you are on your health journey, there is nothing to apologize for.
But there are ways to help meet your goals around nutrition. In particular, starting with that guilt factor. There's no reason to think of food and eating habits
in terms of limiting yourself or what you can't have. Instead, we try to think of it like a reward, and focusing on what we can have.
When you avoid sugary sodas or excess fried foods and replace that with nutrient dense foods like fruits,
vegetables, and whole grains, you aren't limiting yourself. In fact, you are rewarding yourself long term by ensuring a longer, more healthier life.
Not to mention, you feel better too. Of course, the occasional cookie and dessert is exciting for everyone and can fit into your overall health
goals. But the important factor is to enjoy those things in moderation. Alongside this mindset shift of seeing healthy eating
as a reward, this will ultimately give you what you're really looking for-- a healthy life. [MUSIC PLAYING]
