I just remember breaking down, saying, I haven't slept in six months. I'm going through menopause.
[GENTLE MUSIC]
I worked in a very predominantly male entity of the federal government. So I couldn't share with people what
I was going through because I would be in a board meeting with an agenda. People would be looking around because all of a sudden you
would hear the drip, drip, drip on the agenda, I mean, to where I couldn't read it, and be humiliated. And I just don't think everybody can understand what people
are going through until the one day that I had a female boss who pulled me in and said,
you're so wonderful. But I'm seeing a change in you. You look exhausted.
And you've been a little snippy. Finally, I just said to her-- and I just remember breaking down, saying I haven't slept in six months.
I'm going through menopause, and, you know-- and her just hugging me and saying, you know what?
I understand. That's what I want people to really understand, is that this affects how you show up in the world.
It affects how you actually are able to do your job, like you were saying. You know, Tasha, do you have anything else to add
to this part of the discussion? I think I have anxiety now because I'm dating.
I like to go to the next step of at least having a sleepover. But now, it's like, how do I segue into letting
this person know, like, hey, I may experience night sweats. You and I both will be dripping wet
because I'm going to need you to help me change these sheets. And I don't know if he's ready for all of that. So I'm like, I don't know.
I need some tips on how to like have that conversation. Both of you seem like women that were-- you know, you have ideas and goals.
And now you are at the whim of your physiology. And that can cause significant anxiety
and cause you to even feel more stressed. [AUDIO LOGO]
