What are the benefits of using supersetting techniques?

Using supersetting techniques in a training program can lead to a variety of benefits including improved muscular endurance, strength endurance, and workout efficiency. If a superset is being performed for the same muscle or muscle group, the act of performing two exercises back-to-back forces the muscles to remain under tension and work for longer periods leading to enhanced endurance. The amount of resistance being used will determine the type of endurance that is achieved. For example, if lighter resistance is used for each of the sets then more muscular endurance is achieved, which is the ability to produce lower levels of force for longer periods of time. If medium to heavy resistance is used for each of the sets, strength endurance will be achieved, which is the ability to produce high levels of force repeatedly with minimal amounts of rest. Supersets also allow workouts to be more time-efficient especially when they are performed using opposing muscles or muscle groups because while one set of muscles is working, the opposing muscles are given an opportunity to recover. This leads to more work being accomplished in shorter amounts of time, which is great if you have limited availability in your schedule to work out.
