How effective is eszopiclone (Lunesta)?

Sleep studies have shown that eszopiclone helps people with insomnia fall asleep faster. Only higher dose pills (3 mg in adults or 2 mg in older adults) were effective in helping people stay asleep. But higher doses can cause more next-day side effects, such as driving impairment.
