What can a hockey goalie do off the ice to improve agility?

Using a speed ladder and cones you can perform drills like jumping jacks and the T-drill to improve agility for hockey. Some good ice hockey specific drills with a speed ladder include jumping jacks and out-out-in-in. To perform the speed ladder jumping jacks, start by jumping inside the speed ladder, then outside and forward, and back inside again similar to jumping jacks. To perform the out-out-in-in, start with both feet in the first box of the ladder and step out first with the left, then the right foot. Next, step back inside the next box, again with the left foot followed by the right until you work your way down the ladder. Perform 2-4 sets using a half speed ladder and rest 60 seconds between sets. For cone drills good choices would be the T-drill and the L.E.F.T. drill. The T-drill involves setting up cones in a "T" pattern 5 yards apart. Begin by sprinting forward, then side-shuffle to the left, carioca to the right, side-shuffle back to the left, and sprint back to the starting position forming a T. For the L.E.F.T. drill, use 2 cones 10 yards apart and start by sprinting one cone, then backpedal back to the starting cone. Next side-shuffle right, then side-shuffle left. Follow that movement with a carioca right and carioca left, finishing with one last sprint to the opposite cone. Perform 2-6 sets and rest 60 seconds between sets.
