Does hepatitis C run in families?

Hepatitis C is not a genetic disease. Hepatitis C infection can be caught from family members if an infected family member transmits the virus to others. Even in the smallest amounts, infected blood can cause infection. Most cases of hepatitis C are caused by contact with an infected person's blood or open sores and through shared needle use.
