Is sun exposure more dangerous at the beach?

Yes, this is a no-brainer! The sun’s rays are intensified by reflection off sand and water. In addition, beach-goers must be especially cautious about sunscreens wearing off from swimming in the waves, toweling off, and sweating in the hot sun. For adequate protection, you should apply sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher at home, and let it dry before putting on your bathing suit. Reapply at least once per hour from 11 AM through 3 PM, and always reapply after swimming or drying off. You'd be wise to sit under an umbrella or shady tree, and take a break by going indoors or under cover when the sun is at its hottest from noon to 2 PM. 

The sun is dangerous to unprotected skin no matter where you are. At the beach, however, light rays can reflect off the ocean which can make your skin at a higher risk for a burn when you are swimming. Also, in the hot weather and when you are swimming, sunscreen comes off your skin with sweat, so you need to make sure to reapply!
