Burning charcoal in your home or another enclosed space, such as a camper or garage, can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. When you burn charcoal, it produces carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas that you can't smell or see but that can be harmful -- even fatal -- when inhaled. Even opening a window for ventilation will not prevent carbon monoxide gases from harming you, so you shouldn't burn charcoal indoors under any circumstances.
