Can exercising help calm down kids with behavioral issues?

Exercising may help calm down kids with behavioral issues. According to a study published in the journal Pediatrics, introducing a structured exercise program in a school day helps children and teenagers who suffer from attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorders to be less likely to act out in class. The seven-week study used stationary interactive cycling bikes and found that kids with issues had a 35 to 50 percent reduction in behavioral disruptions.

While the benefits were noted during the cycling days, there was a carryover effect on non-exercise days. The program also helped students with anxiety and depression experience a more enriching classroom experience.
