What factors have contributed to worldwide obesity?
The rise of the obesity epidemic is about more than just eating too much. In this Ask the Experts video Steven Smith, MD, discusses the myriad factors that contributed to the growth of this worldwide problem.

We can look at things like computers. We can look at our food. We can look at our activity levels
in the work place. It is not any one thing, we can talk about increasingly refined
and processed food, but one of the things we miss talking about is how cheap food is
relative to our income as a society. Even if you look back into the 60s, the
amount of our income that the average American spent on paying for and buying food was much larger than it is now.
Our food is cheap. It's a fraction of our ability to produce wealth in this country, and as we look at the pandemic across the
world we see as income goes up, food prices begin to go down as a proportion
of that total. I think there's some economic issues here that force.
