How Should I Cleanse My Skin If I Have Psoriasis?
Cleansing your skin when you have psoriasis should be a gentle process. In this video, Dendy Engelman, MD, a dermatologic surgeon with Metropolitan Hospital Center, explains the importance of using a cream cleanser and more.
So you want to be gentle when you're
cleansing your skin if you have psoriasis because the way-- if we look at it microscopically-- they're actually superficial blood vessels that
go up much higher in psoriasis plaques than they do in regular non-psoriasis skin. So you want to be very gentle because if you take off
some of that scale while you're cleansing, you could actually bleed while you're in the shower. So when you're cleansing your skin when you have psoriasis,
I want you to reach for things that are actually in a cream cleanser, not the bar soaps. They can actually dehydrate the skin
because they contain a lot of detergent. So when you're picking, go for something more gentle.
