Hi. I'm Dr. Altmann. Do your kids bicker? Lots of siblings do. But when that bickering and teasing
turns into full-fledged bullying, it's time to step in. Bullying is remarkably common among siblings.
A recent study found that 75% of kids have been bullied by a sibling. And 85% admit to bullying a brother or sister.
As a parent, you might be tempted to think that kind of behavior just goes with the territory for siblings. And indeed, when kids are the perpetrators,
they think this kind of bullying is no big deal. But when they're the victims, it's a different story. It's a very big deal to them.
Remember, you wouldn't be OK with your child being bullied at school or online. And you shouldn't be OK with it when it happens at home.
When you spot signs of bullying, put a stop to it. And make it clear to the guilty sibling that it's not OK.
