Watch as Nutritionist Kate Geagan discusses why it's so important to eat locally grown food.
There are so many reasons to eat locally grown food. If you have children, getting them involved with local food is one of the most powerful things you can do for their health. We've seen the research that when kids get to meet the farmer, go to a farmer's market, taste food fresh, they're much more likely to eat it when it shows up on a dinner table.
The other benefit to locally grown food especially with produce is that the time from farm to table is much shorter which means the nutrient value gets preserved. Things like Vitamin C, folic acid even all those antioxidants that health professionals are always telling you to consume more of are maximally present when they are picked at the peak of perfection.
So eating local ensures that you are eating it more quickly, not to mention they taste phenomenal.
