How Are Heavy Menstrual Periods Diagnosed?

Read Transcript

Heavy menstrual periods are usually diagnosed again from the patients' history, but there are things that the doctor can use to help diagnose those issues and find out exactly where these heavy menstrual cycles are coming from. We can use anything from ultrasound to MRI, we can also do biopsies, and we do those in the office and we take a small portion of the lining inside the uterus to determine if it's too thick.

We can also determine if it's too thin, and what we do with those biopsy results are we're able to counsel the patient on what steps they should take next.
