Heart surgery on its own is a life-changing event. In this video, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Emile Bacha discusses whether dietary changes are necessary after having heart surgery.
You don't really need a special diet before surgery or after surgery unless you have, unless you have specific needs, dietary needs. So basically heart has nothing to do, shouldn't interfere with your diet, you should follow the diet that you need to follow, if you're diabetic, you should follow the correct diet obese you should try to lose weight, if you have high cholesterol, you should apply the correct diet and so forth, irrespective of having heart surgery or not.
If you're having a heart surgery, of course you want to have the most healthy diet possible, but there is no specific diet you should follow that is specifically applied to heart surgery.
Emile Bacha, MD is a cardiothoracic surgeon specializing in valve repair and reconstruction, neonatal cardiac surgery, hybrid procedures, complex biventricular repairs and adult congenital heart surgery.
