Surgeons in training today study under physicians who've pioneered and honed amazing techniques. HealthMaker Steve McLeod, MD, chair of Ophthalmology at UCSF, talks in this video about how up-and-coming surgeons can benefit from this experience.
If you think about the fact that the transition to the new techniques happened really amongst the current generation of the majority of surgeons, it means that the people who are now training young physicians are people who have spent most of their own professional life, really perfecting their skills and honing their skills at this specific technique and so it means that experience that is brought to the teaching environment is one that is now on material experience and I think that has had a really [xx] effect on the outcome.
Stephen McLeod, MD, is chair of ophthalmology at UCSF. He specializes in refractive surgery, cataracts and corneal disease. He has focused on the development of an intraocular lens to restore near vision to cataract surgery patients.
