Well you start basically by asking the very obvious question that you say-- of course, they ask,
have you ever been addicted to a drug? Have you or do you smoke? Do you take alcohol?
Is it legal or illegal? Evaluating their family history-- that is the first question number one
that our physicians should inquire if they are going to be giving an opioid prescription
for a management of chronic pain, because the individuals-- individuals with a past history of addiction
are more vulnerable to become addicted to their opioid medication. That is one of the factors. And also, family history can contribute.
Genetics are fundamental. And we know that genetics account for at least 50%
of your vulnerability to become addicted if you get exposed to drugs.
