Hi, I'm Dr. Oz. Are you getting enough Zinc? It's an essential mineral your body needs for DNA Synthesis, wound healing, and the functioning of over a 100 essential enzymes. But it's estimated that about 40% of people over the age of 60 don't get enough Zinc. Either they don't get enough in their diet, or their body has difficulty absorbing it.

Zinc deficiency increases your risk of cancer, inflammation, gastrointestinal problems, and it lowers your brain power. So, how do you get your daily dose? You can find loads of zinc in oysters, just 3-ounces of oysters gives you almost 500 times the recommended daily intake. Some other great sources of Zinc include crab, beans, nuts, whole grains, low fat dairy products, and fortified breakfast cereals. Getting supplements can also help to get enough Zinc, but don't over do it.

Aim for no less than 15 milligrams of combined zinc from food and supplements and no more than 30 milligrams a day. Too much Zinc can interfere with copper absorption and other vital nutrients. I'm Dr. Oz, for more ways to live healthy check out our smart tips right here.
