2 Ways to Boost Your Energy in Winter

Read Transcript

I'm Dr. Mike Roizen. Are you grumpy most of the time, a little short tempered? We all get that way at times, especially during the winter, but you don't have to. Here are a couple of ways to get your mojo back, this time of year, you probably crave calories, fat and curbs, they help your brain make calming neurotransmitter serotonin.

So number one, just cozy up to the good for you carbs and healthy omega-3 and omega-9 fats that will satisfy your brain without packing on a layer of blubber. Trade meatloaf and pot roast for healthy 100% whole grains like whole wheat pasta and brown rice, or try polenta and salmon. Your work out plan may also have bitten the dust, you probably log less exercise in winter than any other time of the year, make regular exercise appointments on your calendar, the same way you would any other activity.

It's a non negotiable activity, so pin it in, don't pencil it in, pin it in and never let it be erased, but give yourself a bit of a break. Don't think exercise needs to be hardcore at the gym, taking the dog for an extra long walk or doing crunches and lifting weights in front of the TV, they count too, as long as you do it often enough.

There you have it, two ways to boost your mid winter energy, the [xx] omegas and exercise. And here's a third way, watch all of our smart tips right here.
