Women report a much harder time sleeping than men do. They report that they wake up frequently at night.
They have trouble going back to sleep after they've awoken. And they're less likely to wake up feeling rested enough.
Now, one thing that is real interesting around sleep in the United States is we definitely have sleeping disorders, some of the more common ones--
obstructive sleep apnea and chronic insomnia. But we also have a cultural disorder that we flat out
don't sleep enough. And the CDC recommends that we all get seven to eight hours of sleep a night as an adult.
And over time in this century, the amount of sleep that we get has gone down and down and down.
And probably, that affects women perhaps more than men because of multiple roles, and then even simply
trying to take care of yourself. When I tell a woman she needs to eat well, well, that means a lot of cooking. She needs to exercise.
Well, that means time, too. And she's working. Whether she's getting paid for it or not, she's working, caring for family, caring for children.
