The newest, most exciting drug on the market for insomnia
is something called Belsomra. The generic name is suvorexant. This is a very, very interesting drug, and the reason it is
is because it actually works for a very different way in the brain. Most sleep drugs turn on the sleep switch.
This drug turns off the wake switch. Actually, a completely different part of the brain, works on a completely different neurotransmitter.
Which is really exciting, because we haven't seen anything new come to the marketplace in a very long period of time. This is the type of drugs that would be really good for people
who have sleep onset problems, or the inability to fall asleep, or people who may wake up in the first half of the evening.
