How do medications treat viral infections?

Medications known as antiviral drugs impede the work of the virus. A virus affects the body by using your cells to replicate and destroy more of your cells. Some antiviral drugs keep this replication process from happening. Others make your immune system stronger by producing antibodies. Vaccines can work to prevent the virus because they are actually an inactive form of the virus that will give your body a chance to fight it and build immunity before it can make you ill.
