Is it best to have the elbows in or elbows out when training the lats?

Neither arm position is better, necessarily; because the lats are a fan-shaped muscle, they can be stimulated differently by changing arm/elbow positions during resistance exercises.  Therefore, for maximum stimulation, and to prevent the body from getting too used to any one pattern, it is ideal to use a variety arm/elbow and hand positions when training the lats.
