What should I do if have to move a workout around?

There is a clear method to spacing the intervals and training bouts as they appear in your program, so changing things around on your own does effect the overall picture, however, there are times when days have to be swapped out. Working with a coach can help ensure that you are building and resting properly. For example some days you may need to do two days of power intervals in a row to best prepare yourself for upcoming competition, and sometimes you will need a rest between hard efforts. The science behind the training is complicated and in depth, which is why we encourage our athletes to follow a training plan designed by a professional, but alas we are not isolated athletes and life exists around us, so changing things up happens more often than not. It is best for a coach to decide the order of the training, but in the event that this is not possible be sure that you feel rested and ready to perform the prescribed workout, if you do not, the workout quality will be effected and in turn the potential gains you could make from the efforts.
