What can cause the enamel to flake off of my teeth?

Any of the following may cause enamel loss:
  • a condition called amelogenesis imperfecta (the enamel doesn't form correctly and it flakes off)
  • dentinogenesis imperfecta (the dentin doesn't form properly and can't support the overlying enamel)
  • tooth decay
  • trauma
