Do medical schools offer low-cost surgeries?

Stuart A. Linder, MD
Plastic Surgery
Medical schools may offer reduction in surgeries. The distinction between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery must be made. In general, elective surgeries may be discounted by using medical students and residents in training. The residency clinic may offer reduced fees but remember you are having less experienced surgeons working on your face or body with the supervision of an attending surgeon. Functional surgeries such as hernias, mastectomies, bowel surgeries may be performed with use of insurance and in university training hospitals.
