Can superficial somatic pain be prevented?

Superficial somatic pain is usually associated with an injury or illness. With this in mind, to prevent pain, you must remain healthy and prevent both illness and injury. Although both can be controlled to some extent, superficial somatic pain will most likely be experienced in life, such as when a person is cut, burned, or experiencing a shingles (herpes virus) outbreak. Superficial somatic pain can actually be a good thing, for instance when it tells us something is wrong with our body or limits the extent to which a person injures their body.
