What causes dermatofibromas?

No one is sure what causes dermatofibromas. These tiny, firm reddish or brown bumps and spots can appear anywhere on the skin, though the legs seem to be the most commonly affected body part. Some doctors suspect that dermatofibromas may be a reaction to a minor injury, such as a bug bite or scratch. The good news is that dermatofibromas are harmless.
