Could hot, itchy skin mean something serious?

Hot, itchy skin can be due to minor irritations or to something that could be life threatening. For example, skin irritation from poison ivy can cause these symptoms and is not often severe or life threatening. However, in some people who have a poor immune system, superficial wounds can turn into a more serious skin infection. Any skin warmth or itchiness that is painful or is related to a fever should be examined by a physician.
