What is the cause of misalignment or restriction in body movement?

The ways we habitually sleep, walk, or sit (for example, walking with our heads forward or standing with our knees locked) can cause misalignment. Trauma, physical strain from overexertion, or holding one position too long, or muscle tension from mental and emotional stress, can cause pain or restrict motion.
