How long you need to wear clear braces -- either brackets or aligners -- will depend on how much your teeth need to be moved. For most people, treatment with clear braces takes from one to three years. With ceramic or plastic brackets, there is more friction on the wires, so it may take them longer to move teeth than conventional brackets would. With clear plastic aligners, the average adult needs about a year to complete treatment. But clear plastic aligners don't necessarily work faster than brackets. Aligners usually are used on less severe problems, which is why the treatment time may be faster.
