After chin cup therapy there should be a more normal relationship between the upper and lower jaws. There should be an improvement in both the facial profile and the relationships between the upper and lower teeth. These results will typically be stable and last a lifetime. Any remaining growth of the jaws will usually maintain the balance achieved by the chin cup therapy. However, if there is an abnormal amount of lower jaw growth afterwards, the results may become unstable and the discrepancy between the upper and lower jaws may begin to appear again. This is rare, but can happen. In males, skeletal growth can sometimes continue until age 19 or 20.
