Healthify Your Holiday With This Apple Pie Recipe

Looking for a simple, healthy holiday dessert? Try this guilt-free twist on a classic apple pie.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups apples (Granny Smith; peeled, cored and sliced)
  • 2 cups apples (Gala/Honey Crisp; peeled, cored and sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (white, granulated)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons flour (all-purpose)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Pie Crust (shell and cover)

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, toss the apples with lemon juice.
2. In a separate bowl, combine the remaining sugars and flour.
3. Combine the sugar mixture with the apples and toss the mixture lightly with a fork.
4. Pour the apples into the pie crust.
5. Use a knife to cut the remaining butter into small pieces, and distribute the butter pieces over the top of the pie.
6. Unfold top pastry over filling; Cut slits so steam can escape; Trim overhanging edge 1 inch from rim of plate. Fold and roll top edge under lower edge, pressing on rim to seal; flute as desired. Cover edge with 3-inch strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning. Remove foil during last 15 minutes of baking.
7. Bake at 425 degrees F for 10 minutes, then turn the heat down to 350 degrees F and bake an additional 30 minutes.
