How valid are statistical rankings of happiness?

Psychologists and scholars say happiness surveys and polls have inconsistencies because happiness is such a subjective, transient emotion. The timeliness of the questions and whether they are based on current experiences or ask respondents to be reflective can influence the answers. Some studies ask random people about their happiness while others have a sample group record daily activities and their enjoyment.
