To care for someone with gallstones, you should know which symptoms indicate that medical attention is needed. Not everyone with gallstones experiences symptoms. However, if the person you are caring for has sudden, severe, and persistent pain in the upper abdomen, you should call a doctor. Other signs that the condition requires attention are fever and chills, vomiting, yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin, and stools that look clay-colored.
