What purpose do our eyelashes serve?

Eyelashes primarily protect your eyes against pollen and other items in the environment, but they also can sense when something is coming toward the eye, which gives you a microsecond to react to it-and close it. You lose your eyelashes every five weeks-and some medications actually make them grow.
