How does radiation treat uterine cancer?

When uterine cancer is aggressive, your doctor may recommend radiation therapy as part of treatment. Radiation works by using x-rays to kill cancer cells. Radiation can be administered either internally or externally. When radiation is administered externally, its affects are not confined to one part of the body, so it can be effective against cancer that has spread. Brachytherapy, or radiation that has been implanted in the body, concentrates treatment in a specific area.
