Hemisection dental surgery is only one option when there is decay or bone loss from periodontal disease between the two roots of a tooth. Hemisection surgery is meant to retain as much of the original tooth structure as possible. But there are other types of treatment options you also might consider.  Some people choose to have the tooth removed and replaced with an implant. Talk with your dentist about your options.
