Why should depression be treated while waiting for a liver transplant?

It is very important to receive treatment for depression or anxiety as you wait for a liver transplant as these feelings can interfere with your ability to remain physically active, fight infection, recover from surgery, adhere to medical tests, or take medications. An antidepressant will not make you addicted or change who you are as a person. Over time, however, antidepressants can make you feel better. Please let your healthcare provider know if you have noticed changes in your mood, personality, memory, or sleep patterns because help is available.
